TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The LSU men’s basketball team puts its 7-0 Southeastern Conference mark back on the line here Saturday as the Tigers visit Coleman Coliseum to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Game time is set for Noon and will be regionally-televised by JP Sports (WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge). The radio broadcast will be available on the affiliates of the LSU Sports Radio Network (Eagle 98.1 FM in Baton Rouge) and in the “Geaux Zone powered by USAgencies” at LSUsports.net.
LSU is 15-5 on the year, 7-0 in the league, while Alabama enters three games back at 4-3 in the SEC Western Division, 11-8 overall. LSU defeated Alabama, 68-57, two weeks ago at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge.
LSU has won six straight SEC games on the road, three last year and three this season, and has a 13-game overall SEC winning streak dating back to the final six regular season league games of a year ago.
In the first meeting, the LSU starters accounted for all 68 points, paced by the 19 points of senior Darrel Mitchell. Glen Davis had 17 points, Tasmin Mitchell 14 and Tyrus Thomas (despite not scoring for the first 30 minutes of the game) doubled up with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Alabama had an 11-point lead in the game about 12 minutes in before LSU rallied for a 33-29 halftime lead with LSU opening as much as a 16-point advantage in the second half.
Alabama comes into the game off an 88-79 loss Wednesday at Georgia and LSU enters after a very physical win over Auburn, 84-69 in a game in which LSU was able to finally pull away late in the game.
“In the last 10 minutes of the Auburn game we were able to overcome that and get the ball to the right people and win the game,” said LSU Coach John Brady. “It was a hard played game and we were fortunate to win that game, I think.”
