ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The LSU women’s tennis team faced another tough day at the Michigan Classic on Saturday, dropping all of its singles and doubles matches.
“We saw some tough competition today,” head coach Tony Minnis said, “But that’s why we’re playing in this tournament. It’s matches like this that will prepare us for the rigorous regular-season schedule.”
In singles, for the second straight day Anastasiya Dubova took her opponent to three sets. She lost to Georgia Tech’s Alison Silverio, 6-2, in the first set before claiming the second, 6-4. The closing set then went to Silverio, 6-4.
Daysi Espinal and Tiffany Tucker played a tough doubles match as well, falling just short with a 9-7 loss to Michigan’s Debra Streifler and Nina Yaftali.
The Lady Tigers conclude play in the Michigan Classic on Sunday with doubles matches versus No. 4 Georgia Tech at 9:30 a.m. and singles matches against No. 17 California at 11:30 a.m.
Cal has six singles players ranked by the ITA, led by Suzi Babos at No. 30 and Zsuzsanna Fodor at No. 19. Georgia Tech places two tandems in the rankings as well with Lyndsay Shosho and Kristi Miller at 26th and Kelly Anderson and Whitney McCray at 42nd.
