The Lady Tigers (8-0, 1-0 SEC), a 2005 NCAA national semifinalist, had seven days off since defeating Tulane, 89-60, on Dec. 20 in the Maravich Center.
Michigan State (8-2), the 2005 NCAA runner-up, is coming off a victory at Oklahoma on Dec. 21. The Spartans two losses came to top-ranked Tennessee and nationally ranked Maryland in late November.
“It’s one thing to have the national runner-up on your schedule, but to have them coming off of the Christmas break didn’t make for a truly enjoyable Christmas,” LSU head coach Pokey Chatman said. “They’re balanced, intelligent in their attack and play at a high level for 40 minutes.”
This game marks the start to a three-game home stand! in a span of six days. LSU also hosts South Florida on Friday at 2 p.m. CST and North Carolina A&T on New Years day at 1 p.m. CST.
Seimone Augustus leads the Lady Tigers. The senior guard is averaging 21.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Sophomore Sylvia Fowles also leads LSU. The 6-6 center is averaging 16.9 points and 9.8 rebounds per contest.
Liz Shimek leads the Spartans. The senior forward is posting 21.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, while senior guard Lindsay Bowen is averaging 14.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per outing.
Following the game LSU will host South Florida on Friday at 2 p.m. CST, a time change from the original start time due to LSU’s participation in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
