Gavin Named LSWA Cross Country Runner of the Year

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Patrick Gavin was named Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Cross Country Runner of the Year, while teammates Drew Haro, Michelle Hymel and Rachael Graham were all named to the All-Louisiana team it was announced Saturday.

Gavin, a senior from Folsom, La., was the Tigers’ top finisher in three of their five races this season. He turned in a pair of top-30 performances, placing 26th at the SEC Championships and 30th at the season-opening New Mexico Invitational. Gavin also posted LSU’s fastest 8K (24:12.64) and 10K (30:27.7) times of 2005.

Haro was the Tigers’ top finisher at both the Auburn Invitational and the NCAA South Central Regional Championships. The junior from New Orleans recorded LSU’s only top-15 finish of the year, placing 12th at Auburn. He finished the year with season-best times of 24:26.34 in the 8K and 31:07.4 in the 10K.

Hymel was Lady Tigers’ top performer in four of their five races this season, including the SEC Championships and the NCAA South Central Regional.  The senior turned in the LSU’s best times of the season in both the 5K and 6K, clocking individual bests of 18:12.54 and 21:38.54, respectively.

Graham ran for the Lady Tigers in each of their five races, scoring in four.  She was LSU’s No. 2 finisher at the both Lobo Invitational and the NCAA South Central Regional and finished third for the Lady Tigers at the Chile Pepper Festival and SEC Championships.
