Meck Finishes Second, Lady Tigers Fourth at Chrysler Challenge

DESTIN, Fla. — LSU sophomore Kim Meck had her best finish as a collegiate as she finished in second in the individual competition Sunday in the Chrysler Challenge at the Raven course of the Sandestin Resort.

Meck posted three consecutive consistent rounds over the par-71 course of 74-74-73 to finish the 54-hole event at eight-over 221. Her best previous finish before today’s second place finish was a seventh in last year’s Southeastern Conference Women’s Golf Championships in Tunica, Miss.

Jenny Suh of Alabama won the competition by eight shots, finishing at even par 213 after firing a final round two-under par 69 to go with rounds of 72-72 during the first two days. Jenna Pearson of South Carolina, who led through 36 holes, fired an 83 on the final round and fell to a tie for sixth.

LSU’s Alexis Rather, a sophomore playing in the individual competition only, had a strong tournament, finished in a tie for 10th place with a score of 14-over 227. Rather had rounds of 77-73-77. For Rather, who redshirted last year, it was her third career top 10 finish.

In the team competition, South Carolina had to hold off a late rally from Florida, which started the day 20-shots behind the Gamecocks. But Carolina was posted a 316 and Florida a 297 and the final margin after 54 holes was South Carolina winning the tournament by one shot, 903-904.

LSU posted a 304 on the final day of competition and finished with a 54-hole total of 916, 64 over par. The Lady Tigers finished in fourth place in the tournament.

Besides the 73 of Meck, the Tigers also had a 73 from Melissa Eaton, a 77 from Vicky Meyer and 81 from Rebecca Kuhn and Nicola Eaton.

LSU’s women’s golf team is right back to action this coming weekend with the Auburn-Derby Invitational at Auburn, Ala.
