COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The LSU women’s tennis team earned a few victories in the consolation bracket Sunday as it continued play in the Wilson-ITA Southwest Regionals.
“I think we played hard today,” head coach Tony Minnis said. “It’s been a long weekend, and we’ve played well throughout. We have a lot to build on and improve upon when we get back home.”
Two Lady Tigers remained in the singles main draw when the day began. However, both Marina Chiarelli and Tiffany Tucker lost in the round of 32.
Tucker fell to Southeastern’s Breda Kovac, 6-2, 6-1, and Chiarelli dropped her match to seventh-ranked and defending NCAA singles national champion Zuzana Zemenova of Baylor, 6-1, 6-4.
In consolation play, Lauren Seaman won her match over Rice’s Kimberly Patenaude, and Camila Caliari picked up two wins. She first beat Kristen Reid of SMU in straight sets and then followed that with a super-tiebreaker win over Texas’ Ristine Olson, 6-4, 2-6, 10-7.
Caliari could not win her doubles match with partner Anastasiya Dubova, however. The pair fell to No. 23-ranked Sarah Foster and Anna Lubinsky of Texas A&M, 8-5.
Seaman and Tucker advanced in the doubles consolation bracket with an 8-5 win over SMU’s Brooke and Halle Rambally and are scheduled to compete again Monday.
Other competition remaining for LSU includes singles consolation matches for Caliari and Seaman, both set to play Monday at 9 a.m.
