JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. — Junior Chris Wells posted rounds of 1-under 71 and 5-over 77 on Saturday to finish the first day of play in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges Golf and Country Club in a tie for 25th.
Wells led the Tigers into a 14th-place tie in the team competition with a two-round total of 4-over 148. The Tigers are tied with Virginia after recording a 26-over 602 on the day.
Senior Andrew Lanahan and sophomore Brent Struthers each carded a 7-over 151 to sit in a tie for 53rd, while sophomore Brian Noonan is one shot back in a tie for 57th with an 8-over 152. Sophomore Beck Troutman finished the day in a tie for 70th with an 11-over 155.
South Carolina leads the tournament by four strokes over North Carolina after firing a 6-under 570 in two rounds, while TCU, East Tennessee State and Kent State round out the top five. Rhys Davies of East Tennessee State leads the individual competition by two strokes over South Carolina’s Florian Fritsch after posting rounds of 4-under 68 and 3-under 69 for a two-round total of 7-under 137.
Tee times for Sunday’s final round begin at 8 a.m. CDT. The Tigers are paired with Virginia and Wake Forest and will tee off from the 10th hole beginning at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring of the final round can be found at www.golfstat.com.
