BATON ROUGE — Festivities for LSU’s “Party at Pete’s Palace,” the men’s and women’s basketball event on Friday in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, will feature a 3-point shootout and a hot shot contest that pairs LSU fans with the men’s and women’s players.
The 3-point shootout will have Darrel Mitchell and Tasmin Mitchell competing from the men’s basketball team, and Quianna Chaney and Scholanda Hoston competing from the women’s team.
The four teams of two, each consisting of a fan and a player, will compete in a classic contest from behind the arc. The teams will shoot from five designated spots as they make their way around the 3-point arc in a total of 60 seconds. Each station will have a rack of five balls, with the each shot being worth 3 points.
The team with the women’s player and the team with the men’s player that scores the most points will compete head-to-head to see which pair will be crowned champion.
The hot shot competition will have Darnell Lazare and Garrett Temple competing from the men’s team and Florence Williams and Seimone Augustus competing from the women’s team.
The two teams, each consisting of a member of the men’s team and a member of the women’s team, will put on a shooting exhibition as they try and tally the most points within a 45-second time frame. Areas on the court will be designated with a specific point value. Partners will alternate shooting from one of the designated areas and the duo with the most points wins.
The “Party at Pete’s Palace” will begin following LSU’s first home volleyball match of the season against Mississippi State at 6 p.m. CDT. An autograph session will be followed by a performance by stand-up comedian Mark Curry before the festivities begin on the court.
Admission is free for the entire event, including the volleyball match.
