BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The LSU women’s tennis team finished up day two of the Indiana Hoosier Classic with two wins in both singles and doubles, and will close out tournament play Sunday beginning at 10 a.m.
“Today was a little better than yesterday, but still not what I wanted to see,” head coach Tony Minnis said. “We played well at times, but there were too many inconsistencies.”
Doubles play began day two, and both Lady Tigers tandems opened the day with a win. Marina Chiarelli and Mykala Hedberg first defeated Marah Calvo and Dora Vastag of Indiana, 9-8. Seaman and Tucker handed a loss to Murray State’s Casady Pruitt and Anne Pennington, 8-3.
Neither could make it past the quarterfinals, however. Chiarelli and Hedberg fell to Lauren Connelly and Kristina Stastny of Notre Dame, 8-5, and Seaman and Tucker lost their match to Indiana’s Alba Berdala and Cecile Perton, 8-3. Both pairs will continue consolation play Sunday.
LSU’s singles competitors, all in consolation brackets, also continued play Saturday. Seniors Chiarelli and Daysi Espinal, who both won bracket titles last weekend in Maryland, closed out singles play of the Hoosier Classic with wins. Chiarelli defeated Kansas’ Elizaveta Andeeva, 7-5, 6-1, and Espinal won over Ashley Filberth, also of Kansas, 6-3, 6-2.
Tucker did not compete in singles, and both Seaman and Hedberg dropped their matches in super-tiebreakers.
The Hoosier Classic cloncludes Sunday with the remaining doubles competition beginning at 10 a.m.
