BATON ROUGE — The 2005 SEC Cross Country Championships, originally scheduled for Oct. 29 at Highland Road Park, have been moved to Fort Jackson, S.C., and will be hosted by the University of South Carolina, it was announced Tuesday by the conference office.

Due to the on-going recovery efforts related to Hurricane Katrina in the Baton Rouge area, it was determined it would be in the best interest of the championship to move to an alternate site.

“We wish we were hosting the meet here and that (Hurricane) Katrina had never happened, but unfortunately that isn’t the case,” said LSU head track and field coach Dennis Shaver. “Knowing the short amount of time South Carolina was given to secure a facility and the necessary manpower required to host such an event, we are very lucky and grateful that they are willing to do so.”

The meet, still scheduled for Oct. 29, will include all 23 of the SEC’s men’s and women’s cross country teams.

Championship details, including specific events and race times will be made available at a later date.
