Men's Basketball Receives Letter of Intent from Farrer

Tigers Honored with Annual End of Season Banquet

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s basketball booster group, the Sixth Man Club, honored the 2004-05 members of the basketball program Monday night at the club’s annual end of season banquet at the Lod Cook Alumni Center.

Several awards were handed out during the event that also featured a season video of the Tigers, 20-11 and champions of the Southeastern Conference Western Division with a 12-4 record and a perfect 8-0 mark in the Maravich Assembly Center in conference play.

Receiving awards from emcee Victor Howell of Cox Sports Television for their play on the court were: Tack Minor (Assist Award, averaging 4.6 assists per game, fourth in the SEC); Brandon Bass (Rebound Award, averaging 9.2 rebounds per game, second in the SEC); and, Darrel Mitchell (Free Throw Award, 84.6 percent from the line, 77-of-91, third best in the SEC).

Bass, who averaged a team best and third in the SEC 17.3 points per game, was named the Best Offensive Player. Bass finished his sophomore season shooting 56.7 percent from the floor (181-of-319) becoming the first LSU player since Stromile Swift in 2000 to win the league field goal percentage title. She also shot 77.7 percent from free throw line (146-of-188), ninth in the SEC.

Bass was named the 2005 SEC Player of the Year and was on the 2005 SEC All-Tournament team. He was also named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the year and a member of the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District squad in earning team academic honors.

Mitchell was also named the team’s Best Defensive Player as the member of the 2005 Academic Honor Roll in the league highlighted his season by averaging 1.8 steals per game, sixth in the Southeastern Conference.

SEC Freshman of the Year Glen Davis was named the Most Improved Player on the team. Since the start of league play on Jan. 8, the Baton Rouge native upped his scoring average two points to 13.5 points a game and his rebounding average two points to 8.8 rebounds a game. He shot 51.3 percent form the floor and 69.8 percent from the free throw line.

The coaching staff also presented the annual Tiger Award to Paul Wolfert, who will be leaving the team to graduate in December. Wolfert is a two-time member of the Academic Honor Roll and for the last two years has been chosen by the Champs program as the team’s selection to the SEC Good Works Team.

In addition, Coach John Brady presented the annual specially made Senior Awards to Wolfert, Antonio Hudson (who finished his career 24th all-time in scoring with 1,269 points and fifth all-time in career three-pointers with 174), Josh Maravich and Xavier Whipple.
