AUBURN, Ala. — The LSU women’s tennis team won its second straight match Friday when it defeated Auburn in a 6-1 contest.
The win was LSU’s second in the Southeastern Conference, bringing them to 2-7 in the SEC and evening their overall record at 9-9. Auburn dropped to 6-12 and is yet to win an SEC outing at 0-9 in conference.
The Lady Tigers opened the match by sweeping the doubles competition for the second straight time. Marina Chiarelli and Camila Caliari dominated their opponents, 8-0, while the pairs of Lauren Seaman and Tiffany Tucker and Amanda Mang and Staten Spencer earned 8-3 wins.
It was only the second time this season LSU won the doubles point against an SEC opponent, the last time coming in their win over South Carolina.
Singles play saw similar results for LSU as well. With the exception of a loss by Seaman on court two, the Lady Tigers all came out victorious.
Caliari ran off with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Erin Gray on court six for the second point of the day for LSU and also her fifth win in a row.
Chiarelli then gave the Lady Tigers another point with her two-set win on court four. Tucker next crushed any hopes of an Auburn comeback with a two-set win of her own on court five, 7-5, 6-2, to clinch the win. It was Chiarelli’s third straight victory and Tucker’s fourth.
Spencer ended her dry spell by picking up a win on court three, as did Mang with hers on court one.
Auburn’s Ashley Cowart defeated Seaman on court two to avoid the sweep for her team.
