BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team notched its first Southeastern Conference win Sunday when they beat Vanderbilt, 4-0.
The Tigers earned the doubles point and rolled through singles early, winning first sets on all six courts.
“We played closer to our potential today,” Brown said.
The No. 16 Tigers improved to 13-6, 1-5 in the SEC with the win. Vanderbilt fell to 9-7, 1-5 in the SEC.
On doubles court one, Mark Growcott and Ken Skupski beat Scott Brown and Jason Pinsky, 8-3. Colt Gaston and Danny Bryan won their fourth consecutive match on court two, 8-6 over Matt Lockin and Ryan Preston to clinch the doubles point.
Growcott continued to dominate on singles court two, winning his fourth consecutive match in straight sets there.
Peter Richman used a second set tiebreaker win at No. 4 singles to extend LSU’s lead. Jason Hazley clinched the Tigers’ win on court three with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Nathan Sachs.
The match was called when LSU clinched. On court one, Skupski was in a tiebreaker with 38th-ranked Scott Brown. Bryan and Kevin Dessauer were in third sets on courts five and six.
“Everybody was involved today,” Brown said. “That is what it will take to improve and do something significant this season this season.”
The Tigers hit the road again next weekend to face two top-15 teams at Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
