BATON ROUGE — LSU sophomore forward Brandon Bass was named honorable mention All-American on the Associated Press All-America team announced by the wire service on Tuesday.
Bass, the Southeastern Conference Player and Scholar-Athlete of the Year, finished the year averaging 17.3 points per game (third best in the SEC), 9.1 rebounds (2nd in the SEC) while leading the league in field goal shooting at 56.7 percent. He also was ninth in the league in free throw percentage making 146-of-188 for 77.7 percent and he was fourth in the league in blocked shot average at 1.6 a contest.
The Baton Rouge product scored in double figures in 27 of 30 games with 12 double doubles.
Bass on Tuesday was also picked All-South by Basketball Times, topping a team that also include Bo McCalebb of UNO, Paul Millsap of Louisiana Tech, Lawrence Roberts of Mississippi State and Jarrett Jack of Georgia Tech.
LSU freshman Glen Davis also picked up another honor, being named to the Basketball Times All-Freshman second team Davis averaged 13.4 points per game and 8.7 rebounds a contest for the Tigers.
LSU finished the season 20-10 overall and 12-4, tying for the SEC Western Division title.
