Tigers Return to Form, Defeat South Florida, 6-1

BATON ROUGE — No. 20 LSU resumed its winning form Thursday when they beat South Florida, 6-1, in their first home match in over a month.

“There was a good energy out there today,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “They played with a freshness that comes from being at home. The guys seem to feed off that.”

The win over the Bulls (3-10) ended a four-match skid for LSU (11-5, 0-4 SEC).

The Tigers started the afternoon with a doubles point sweep. No. 6-ranked Ken Skupski and Mark Growcott won 8-3 on court one. Danny Bryan and Colt Gaston clinched the point on court two.

Jason Hazley and Peter Richman won on court three in their first match together this season.

In singles, Paul White finished off South Florida’s Dane Vernon in less than an hour on court six. Growcott followed with a win over Juan Barragan on court two. Hazley clinched the match on court three.

On court one, Skupski used a second set tiebreaker to beat Uli Kiendl. Danny Bryan won, 6-3, 6-3 on court five.

They play here at W.T. Robinson Stadium again Sunday at noon against Michigan.

“We need to continue to build on this and turn our focus to a strong Michigan team,” Brown said.
