BLYTHEVILLE, S. C. — The LSU Lady Tigers were unable to tame the high-scoring conditions at The University Club here Sunday and dropped to a tie for fourth in the final standings of the Lady Gamecock Classic.
LSU posted a final round of 34-over 322 on the final day to finish at 83-over par 947, tied with host South Carolina for fourth. The Lady Gamecocks shot 319 on the final round. New Mexico, with a final day 309, goes wire-to-wire to win the event, shooting a 66-over par 930, 10 shots better than second place Furman, with Virginia in third at 78-over par.
Jenny Suh of Furman shot a three-over 75 on Sunday and that was good enough to get her a three-shot win in the individual competition with eight-over 224 (76-73-75). LSU freshman Rebecca Kuhn had a five-over 77 on the final day and finished at 17-over par 233 (76-80-77) to finish alone in fifth place. Sophomore Melissa Eaton despite an 81 on the final day, finishes ninth at 20-over par 236.
LSU’s only other score in the 70s came from Brooke Shelton who rebounded with a 77 on Sunday after two rounds in the 80s to open the event.
LSU returns home for its annual spring tournament, hosting the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic at the University Club in Baton Rouge. The college-am is scheduled for Thursday with the 54-hole tournament set for Friday through Sunday.
