BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team concludes a four-match homestand with a contest against No. 23 Tennessee at 1 p.m. Sunday.
“It’s always a battle when we play Tennessee,” head coach Tony Minnis said. “They’re going to come in here and be ready to play, and we have to be ready to match their intensity.”
The two teams split matches in 2004. Tennessee beat LSU in Knoxville in the regular season, 6-1. Then later in the year in the SEC Tournament, the Lady Tigers edged out the Lady Vols, 4-3, in the quarterfinals. Tennessee leads the all-time series, 18-11.
The Lady Tigers lost a 5-2 match to Georgia on Friday, bringing their overall record to 7-4(1-2 Southeastern Conference). In the loss, however, senior Amanda Mang picked up her first win over a ranked opponent this season by defeating the No. 4 player in the country in Shadisha Robinson.
Tennesse, by defeating Arksanas 6-1 Friday, brought its overall record to 9-2(2-1 SEC). No. 44-ranked Sabita Maharaj leads the Lady Vols into action against LSU.
“We have really been competing hard, and we will do well if we just compete with consistency,” Minnis said.
