BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team faces its second top-three team in as many weeks when they welcome third-ranked Georgia to W.T. Robinson Tennis Stadium at 4 p.m. Friday.

The Lady Tigers currently stand at 7-3 overall and 1-1 in Southeastern Conference competition. They opened conference play by splitting matches with Florida and South Carolina last weekend.

Georgia comes to Baton Rouge with a 9-1 overall record and is 2-0 in the SEC. The Lady Bulldogs opened conference play last weekend with wins at Alabama and Auburn. Their only loss of the season came in the National Team Indoor Championships to No. 1 Stanford in the semifinals.

“Georgia is a very good team and probably one of the most experienced,” head coach Tony Minnis said. “We have a really good shot to go out there and beat a really solid team.”

The two teams last met in Athens in 2004. Georgia won that contest 7-0. The Lady Bulldogs lead the all-time series 25-1.

LSU’s win over South Carolina last weekend was the first time it had defeated the Gamecocks since 1985. That is also the last time the Lady Tigers won over Georgia.

Senior Amanda Mang sets the pace for LSU in the No.1 singles position, still looking for her first conference win and first win over a ranked opponent. Freshman Staten Spencer looks to continue her winning ways, as she improved to 9-1 in dual matches with the match-clinching win over South Carolina last weekend.

The Lady Bulldogs are led by sophomores Shadisha Robinson and Natalie Frazier. They rank at Nos. 4 and 26 in the nation, respectively.

After this contest, the Lady Tigers battle No. 23 Tennessee on Sunday in their last home match of the month.
