BATON ROUGE — Five former LSU football players will spend the next three months overseas as they have been allocated to NFL Europe, which begins its 10-week schedule on April 2.
Among the former Tigers on NFL Europe rosters include offensive tackle Rodney Reed and four defensive backs in Jack Hunt, Adrian Mayes, Clarence LeBlanc and Norman LeJeune.
Reed, a former two-time first-team Academic All-America for the Tigers, was recently signed by the Miami Dolphins and has been allocated to the Hamburg Sea Devils. During his playing days at LSU, Reed was called the smartest player in college football by Sports Illustrated.
Mayes, who saw action in four games as a rookie for the Arizona Cardinals in 2004, and Hunt will both be members of the Berlin Thunder. Mayes and Hunt, who was recently signed by the Dolphins, were both members of LSU’s 2003 national championship squad.
Norman LeJeune, who spent the 2003 season with the Philadelphia Eagles, is now a member of the Tennessee Titans and has been allocated to the Rhein Fire. In addition, LeBlanc, a 2001 All-NFL Europe defensive back, returns to the league as a member of the Rhein Fire after a three-year absence. LeBlanc, who has seen action with the NFL’s New York Giants, played for the Tigers from 1996-99.
