BATON ROUGE — LSU dominated both its opponents Saturday, beating both Southern Miss and Texas Southern, 7-0.
“We did a good job today,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “We built on the momentum we’ve been working with.”
The No. 12-ranked Tigers (6-0) continued to dominate in doubles, winning on all three courts in both matches. No LSU doubles team has lost a match yet this season.
Against Southern Miss (1-1), Ken Skupski was the first off the court in singles with a win over No. 98-ranked David Canudas. Peter Richman beat Reid Bourgeois soon after.
Sophomore William LeFevre entered the singles lineup and clinched both wins for the Tigers. He got off to a slow start against Southern Miss’ Juan Garzon but recovered to get a lopsided 0-6, 6-0, 6-0 win.
LSU’s no. 87-ranked Jason Hazley fell behind 5-1 early to Marc Lux but came back to win 7-5, 6-2. Danny Bryan and Mark Growcott also won their matches on courts two and six.
Five Tigers had straight-set singles wins against Texas Southern. Hazley lost his first set against Aurelio Martinez, but made another comeback to win in a tiebreaker set.
LSU faces Louisiana-Lafayette next Saturday in its final tune up before the National Team Indoor Championships in Chicago the following weekend.
“As individuals they did well and as a team we continue to move forward,” Brown said. “We are raising our level as we go into bigger and bigger matches.”
