OXFORD, Miss. — LSU’s top-ranked Lady Tigers won its 20th game of the season in style on Thursday night, 82-58, over Ole Miss in Tad Smith Coliseum to remain in first-place in the Southeastern Conference.
Temeka Johnson, a senior point guard for LSU (20-1, 7-0 SEC), tied the SEC’s career assist record with 11 in the victory.
Seimone Augustus led the Lady Tigers in the victory over Ole Miss (15-6, 5-3 SEC) with 22 points, while Sylvia Fowles added 14 points and 13 rebounds, Scholanda Hoston had 13 points and Wendlyn Jones collected 11 points and 11 rebounds.
“I was extremely pleased with the overall effort of our kids tonight,” LSU head coach Pokey Chatman said. “We best a very good basketball team tonight.”
The Lady Tigers shot 52.5 percent from the floor in the game, including 56.3 in the second half. LSU’s defense held Ole Miss to just 28.4 percent from the floor in the game and outrebounded the Lady Rebels 47-37.
“It was nice to come in here and shoot 52 percent for the game on the road,” Chatman added. “That was something that we struggled with in our last game so I was extremely pleased.”
LSU led 40-26 at the break, but Ole Miss cut the lead to seven, 48-41 with 13:39 left in the game before the Lady Tigers used a 16-5 run to take an 18-point lead and never looked back, extending the lead to 24 by the final horn.
Carletta Brown had 17 points to lead Ole Miss and Armintie Price added 15 points and a team-high six rebounds. The Lady Rebels’ second leading scorer, Amber Watts, was held to just one point in 16 minutes before fouling out of the game.
Johnson added nine points to her 11 assists and will attempt to surpass former Florida guard Camille Ratledge on Sunday at Mississippi State.
The Lady Tigers, who have now won 20 games for the 17th time in program’s history, will remain in the state of Mississippi to visit Mississippi State in Starkville on Sunday at 2 p.m. CST in Humphrey Coliseum.
