Women’s Tennis Takes on Two More In-State Opponents Saturday

BATON ROUGE – After sweeping two in-state opponents last weekend, the No. 23 LSU women’s tennis team (2-0, 0-0) will battle two more this weekend as Southeastern Louisiana and Southern University travel to W.T. ‘Dub’ Robinson Tennis Stadium.

The Lady Tigers are off to a 2-0 start for the 13th consecutive year. They look to extend that record to 4-0 against two more teams they have not lost to in program history. They are 5-0 overall against SLU, beating them in the last meeting, 6-0, in 2000. SLU’s roster features almost all new faces with one senior and six freshmen.

“I’m expecting a very tough match,” coach Tony Minnis said. “Southeastern’s good, they’ve got a brand new team. I saw a couple of their players in the fall and they’re much, much improved since last year.”

The next opponent for the Lady Tigers on the day will be Southern. Despite owning a 12-0 record over the Jaguars, including two victories last year by a 7-0 margin, Minnis said they will provide some tough competition for LSU.

“Southern’s program is getting better and better each year,” he said. “So we just need to come out and compete hard.”

Senior Amanda Mang leads the Lady Tigers into the matches, part of Super Tiger Weekend on the LSU campus featuring 14 athletic events totaling more than 35 hours of action. Play versus Southeastern begins at 9 a.m. followed by the contest with Southern at 1 p.m.
