Lady Tigers Tennis Opens Spring Season with In-State Dual Matches

BATON ROUGE — The No. 23 LSU women’s tennis team opens up dual-match play Saturday versus in-state foes Centenary at 9:30 a.m. and UL-Lafayette at 2 p.m. CST at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.

In 35 contests, LSU has never lost to either school in program history. They hold a 16-0 record over Centenary and a 19-0 mark over ULL.

“I’m just excited to be getting the season started,” coach Tony Minnis said. “I am looking forward to some good competitive matches this weekend.”

This doubleheader featuring Louisiana schools is the first of two for the Lady Tigers. They will battle Southern University and Southeastern Louisiana next weekend in preparation for Southeastern Conference play, where they will defend their SEC Western Division title.

The Lady Tigers return five members to the roster from a year ago. Amanda Mang returns as the team’s lone senior joined by four juniors. Three freshmen will also compete this season.

“It seems that every time we step on the court there is stiff competition,” Minnis said. “We have to make sure that we play as hard as we can because every match is important.”
