BATON ROUGE — LSU’s second-ranked Lady Tigers basketball team defeated Arkansas in record fashion, 91-45, on Thursday night in the Maravich Center to remain unbeaten in the Southeastern Conference.
The 46-point victory was LSU’s (17-1, 4-0 SEC) largest margin of victory over a SEC opponent, topping the old mark of 43 against Kentucky in 2003.
“I’m extremely pleased with the effort all-around tonight,” LSU head coach Pokey Chatman said. “I was also extremely pleased to see our execution and mental focus when we had multiple lineups in there.”
All 14 players scored at least one point and everyone played at least eight minutes and no one played more than 22 minutes.
LSU’s defense also led to the victory. The Lady Tigers held Arkansas (11-6, 1-5 SEC) to 29.4 percent shooting from the floor, including just 20.0 percent in the second half. Arkansas also committed 21 turnovers and LSU had 17 steals and 26 points off the turnovers.
“It was tremendously important to see our defense getting better,” Chatman said. “We played everyone tonight and our defense never lost a beat when we substituted.”
The Lady Tigers used a 16-0 run early in the game to pull away from Arkansas and led 52-26 at the break. LSU then held the Lady Razorbacks to four points over the final eight minutes of the game, taking as much as a 48-point lead.
Seimone Augustus led the way for LSU with 16 points and eight rebounds in just 19 minutes, while Quianna Chaney and Sylvia Fowles each added 11 points and Wendlyn Jones had 10 points. Temeka Johnson contributed nine points and 10 assists to the victory and Fowles had eight rebounds.
LSU outrebounded Arkansas 45-33 and connected on 57.6 percent of the shots from the floor, including 60.0 percent in the first half.
