ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Four singles players and a doubles pair for the LSU women’s tennis team won matches in day two of the Michigan Invitational.
“The first day of a tournament is always difficult, and we played better on the second day just like I had expected,” coach Tony Minnis said. “We played with a little more confidence and I expect to improve again for tomorrow.”
Amanda Mang and Tiffany Tucker opened the day with a win in the doubles competition over Leanne Rutherford and Debra Streifler of Michigan, 8-3.
Tucker and fellow freshman Staten Spencer both won singles matches for the second day as well. Tucker defeated Catherina Bestahorn of Eastern Michigan without allowing her opponent a single set victory. Spencer won over Eastern Michigan’s Yana Parfenyuk, 6-2, 6-3.
Daysi Espinal and Marina Chiarelli also picked up wins for the Lady Tigers in the singles competition over Eastern Michigan opponents.
The tournament concludes Sunday, as LSU will face the remaining opponents of Georgia Tech in singles and Eastern Michigan in doubles.
