BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s basketball team, fresh off two strong performances over Tulane and Louisiana Lafayette to win the LSU Louisiana Classic basketball tournament, go right back into action Wednesday night against the University of New Orleans.
Game time at the Maravich Center is 7 p.m. There is no television for the game and the complete radio broadcast will only be available in Baton Rouge on 107.3 FM and on the Internet at www.LSUsports.net. Many other affiliates of the LSU Sports Network will join the broadcast in progress at approximately 8 p.m. following the conclusion of Tiger Sportsline.
Tickets will be available for $12 for the middle level and $10 for the upper level seats beginning 90 minutes prior to tipoff at the upper concourse windows of the building. One fan will have the opportunity to win hotel accommodations and tickets for two to the LSU-Southern Miss road game in Biloxi, Miss., on Dec. 18.
LSU won the tournament championship, 83-69, over the Cajuns as Brandon Bass earned MVP honors by hitting 11-of-12 field goal attempts and scoring 30 points. Antonio Hudson had his fourth double figure game in succession dating back to last year as he hit all six of his three-point field goal attempts in a 22-point night. Hudson and Darrel Mitchell were also named all-tournament by the media covering the tournament.
The Tigers are expected to go again with the three-guard, two-forward offense of Tack Minor, Mitchell and Hudson with Bass joined by Glen Davis. Davis had a double double in his college debut, and although he struggled to score in the championship game, he once again pulled down 13 rebounds in the contest.
The University of New Orleans is back in the state after three games in Raleigh, N. C., in the BCA Invitational. The Privateers are 1-2, losing to North Carolina State (92-58) and Fairleigh Dickinson (71-58) before beating Siena (81-73) on Friday night. Coach Monte Towe, the former point guard for 1974 NCAA champ North Carolina State, is in his fourth year at the helm of the Privateers.
Bo McCalebb has been the big scorer for the Privateers as last year’s Sun Belt Freshman of the Year is averaging 21 points and 4.3 assists. Shawn Malloy is the other UNO player averaging in double figures in the starting lineup at 10.7 a game.
Following Wednesday’s game, the Tigers will be right back in action on Saturday at noon for a regionally-televised game on Fox Sports Net against West Virginia. That will be the final game for LSU before a two-week break for dead week/final exam period on the campus.
