BATON ROUGE — LSU women’s soccer player Chelsea Agar was named to the 2004 ESPN Academic All-America University Division Women’s Soccer Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

“When you talk about Chelsea your talking about someone who is of top caliber academically, said LSU assistant coach Ricky Zambrano. “The fact that Chelsea was able to do well in class and be a leader on the field shows how much she has had to work, and how much she deserves it.”

Agar, a native of Courtenay, British Columbia, Canada, was a first team selection. She is a biochemistry major with a 4.0 GPA. A four-year starter for the Tigers, she started in 67 games in her career. Agar also tallied two goals, an assist and five points in her four seasons at LSU.

“It is a great day for the program,” said Zambrano. “Hopefully what Chelsea has done will set an example for the returning players that it can be done.”

Last year she was named a third team on the Academic All-America selection. Earlier this season, Agar was named the Southeastern Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and presented the LSU team academic award.

“The success of our athletes goes hand and hand with the support given by the university,” said Zambrano. “Dr. Grooters does a great job with the players and that work shows.”

Agar was also named to the 2004 SEC Good Works team for her outstanding work in the community.
