Women’s Tennis Closes Fall Season at SEC Coaches Classic

BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team will compete in its final tournament of the fall season this weekend at the SEC Coaches Classic in Peachtree City, Ga.

The tournament, slated to begin Thursday and last through Sunday, will feature teams from the Southeastern Conference, including 6 that ended the 2004 season ranked in the top 20. Vanderbilt finished last season at No. 2 in the nation, Florida at No. 3 and Georgia and Kentucky at Nos. 7 and 16, respectively. Tennessee ended at No. 19 and LSU rounded out the list at No. 20.

“We’ve played more this fall than we have in the past, and I’m happy with what I’ve seen from all of our players,” LSU coach Tony Minnis said.

All Lady Tigers will participate in singles competition, and LSU will also enter three doubles teams. Pairs for the weekend include Amanda Mang and Tiffany Tucker, Lauren Seaman and Staten Spencer and Camila Caliari and Marina Chiarelli.

Minnis said he is pleased with the overall fall performance and hopes his team can continue to play good tennis in this tournament.

“We’ve had a very solid fall season. We’ve had a lot of time to gain some confidence and get more experience. We just need to continue to play with the same type of competitiveness that we have been playing with so far.”
