Niswanger Named First-Team Academic All-District by CoSIDA

BATON ROUGE — LSU offensive lineman Rudy Niswanger has been named first-team academic all-district by the College Sports Information Director’s of America, the organization announced on Friday.

Niswanger, a native of Monroe, La. maintains a 4.0 grade point average in pre-medicine. Niswanger joins punter Keith Andrews of Mississippi State as the only student-athletes on the all-district team with a 4.0 grade point average.

Niswanger, a junior, will play the remainder of the season as LSU’s starting center after playing the first eight games as a guard or tackle on the Tiger offensive line.

The academic honor is the third for Niswanger during his career as he’s also been a two-time selection to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll.

By making first team all-district, Niswanger is now eligible for selection to the CoSIDA All-America team, which will be announced in December. LSU has had 18 players earn either first or second team Academic All-America honors during their career, including quarterback Matt Mauck and offensive tackle Rodney Reed last year.
