BATON ROUGE — The LSU Soccer team shutout Southern Sunday in the season finale dubbed the “Mayor’s Cup” at the LSU Soccer Complex, 10-0.

‘It was a great season, and I think it was a great game for our seniors,” said LSU co-head coach Danielle Fotopoulos. “I am really proud of everybody, and I appreciate Southern for their effort and for them coming out and the Mayor.”

With the win, LSU (8-11-1, 2-8-1 SEC) ends the season on a 20 game winning streak against non-conference opponents at home. The Tigers are now 2-0 all-time against Southern (5-11-1, 1-4-0 SWAC). LSU out shot Southern 23-3 with 14 of the 23 shots on goal.

The Tigers would waste no time against Southern as they scored a record nine goals in the first half. Seniors Chelsea Agar and Robyn DesOrmeaux would both score their first career goal in the first half, and both Agar and DesOrmeaux had two goals in the game. Artie Brown and Danielle Keath also scored two goals in the game, while Stacy Bishop and Christine Haman had one goal each.

Brown, a Baton Rouge native, ends the season leading the team with 14 goals and 29 points. The career goals and points leader ends her career with 40 goals and 89 points after breaking the 8-year old record on Friday, Oct. 29.

“We appreciate our senior effort and they way that they have worked so hard,” said Fotopoulos. “Robyn getting her first goal in her career and Chelsea getting her first in her career is just awesome. It is something we are proud of, and something I know they will always remember. Our players have continued to play hard all season and we just hope they continue to be one of the best teams in the SEC.”

LSU seniors Artie Brown, Christine Haman, Suzanne Drake, Robyn DesOrmeaux, Danielle Keath and Chelsea Agar were honored in a pre-game ceremony, and Mayor Bobby Simpson presented LSU co-head coach George Fotopoulos the Mayor’s Cup trophy after the game.

“I think this game is good for the whole community and I hope this tradition continues,” said Fotopoulos. “I can’t say enough about George and what he has done for the team and the community. Something that George and I have always believed in was always giving back to the community, and I am glad we can end our season with the Mayor’s Cup and doing all we can for the community.”
