BATON ROUGE — Artie Brown set the LSU career goals and points record Friday night as the LSU Soccer team shutout Arkansas at the LSU Soccer Complex, 3-0.

“Tonight we played as well as we have all year, and this is the first night we are rewarded for our efforts,” said LSU co-head coach George Fotopoulos. “Arkansas deserves a lot of credit, and they are a very good team. I am just very pleased with the efforts of our team today. It was not only a good way for out team to go out this year, but also the right way to go out for out team with Artie breaking the record and Robyn DesOrmeaux getting the shutout.”

With the win, LSU (7-11-1, 2-8-1 SEC) breaks its six game skid and gets its second SEC win of the season. The Tigers are now 4-5-1 against Arkansas (6-11-2, 2-7-2 SEC) all-time. LSU out shot Arkansas 21-6 with 11 shots on goal.

The game would go scoreless through the first half as both teams were unable to put anything in the back of the4 net. LSU would outshoot the Razorbacks 10-1 in the first half.

In the second half both teams would make runs, but in the 84th minute the Tigers would get on the board. Sophomore Stacy Bishop would head the corner kick from Caroline Vanderpool past the Razorback keeper Carrie Dillsaver.

LSU would score again in the 88th minute when Baton Rouge native Artie Brown would breakaway from the Arkansas defenders and slip one by Dillsaver to set the new career goals and points records. Brown was not done yet though as she would score again in the 88th minute when Suzanne Drake would pass it up to Brown who slipped by the Arkansas defenders and ripped on into the back of the goal.

“I don’t think it could have happened to a better person not only as a soccer player, but as a person,” said Fotopoulos. “I think Artie Brown is a first class person and a first class soccer player, and I am glad to know that her name will be stoned in the record book for the time being as the most prolific scorer in our schools history. I am very proud of that”

With the two-goal performance Brown leads the team with 12 goals and now holds the LSU career goals record with 38 and the career points record with 82.

The LSU defense would hold out for the rest of the game and keep the Razorbacks off of the board as senior Robyn DesOrmeaux would get her first shutout of the season as she had two saves.

The Tigers will close out the season Sunday against Southern in the Mayor’s Cup at the LSU Soccer Complex at 1 p.m. CST.
