BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s golf team will travel to Lake Forest, Ill., to compete in the prestigious Windon Memorial Classic on Monday at Conway Farms Golf Club, an event where the Tigers finished in sixth place a season ago.
The Tigers will play 36 holes Monday and a final round on Tuesday, with the course playing to a par 71 and 6,733 yards for the championship.
Joining LSU in the 18-team field is host Northwestern, defending champion Minnesota, California, UC-Davis, Duke, Furman, Illinois, Kansas, Kent State, North Carolina State, North Florida, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Purdue, Richmond, Stanford and Toledo.
“It’s a nice field that gives us a chance to step out of our district to play a tournament,” said LSU head coach Greg Jones. “This tournament will give us a look at a different style of golf course that will prepare us for what we will see in the postseason.”
LSU will play with a lineup of seniors Heath West and Jake Shaw, sophomores Garrett Runion and Chris Wells, and freshman Beck Troutman. Shaw is making his first appearance of the season, while Troutman will make his LSU debut.
“This is another combination we will play to see what our best lineup will be as we progress through the season,” said Jones. “Wells and Runion have been steady so far, and we just need to get the other guys to play to their capabilities.”
Wells leads the Tigers with a 71.83 stroke average in six rounds on the season, including four rounds under par. Runion trails with a 72.17 stroke average and a team-best 6-under 65 in the second round of the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate last week.
LSU will travel to Tampa, Fla., following the Windon Memorial to participate in the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Invitational Oct. 11-12 at Old Memorial Golf Club.
