Skupski and Growcott Claim Doubles Crown at Regionals

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — LSU’s tandem of Ken Skupski and Mark Growcott turned their first collegiate doubles tournament into their first major tournament title Sunday in the ITA-Wilson Southeast Regional Championships.

Skupski and Growcott defeated Florida’s Janne Holmia and Greg Oulette, 8-5, in the tournament finals.

The win earns them a spot in next month’s ITA National Indoor Tournament with the seven other regional finalists and other top teams selected to the main draw.

“Ken and Mark did a good job today of capturing the momentum early and then recapturing it later in the match,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown.

The tournament win comes in one of the toughest regions in the nation. Skupski, a sophomore, and Growcott, a junior, competed together before college in their native England.

“This shows what kind of chemistry they have together,” Brown said. “They compliment each other’s style. When one is down the other raises their level of play.”

Skupski will also compete in singles at the National Indoor Tournament.

Other members of the team will play in two weeks in the UL-Lafayette Invitiational.
