NASHVILLE — The LSU Tigers women’s golf team posted a 12-over 300 Saturday in the second round of the Mason Rudolph Championships and stands in a tie for sixth place after 36-holes of the 54-hole event.
The Tigers are 20-over par for the two rounds over the Vanderbilt Legends Club, tied with Tulane and Wake Forest. The 10th-ranked LSU team is 19 shots out of the lead set by the nation’s number one team, UCLA, at 577 (289-288), one over par.
Defending champion Georgia is second at 581, five over, with Duke, the nation’s third ranked team, getting back in the picture at eight-over par 584 after shooting a six-under par round of 283 on the day.
The Tigers round was one short shy of being a very strong one as LSU as to count one score in the 80s. LSU got strong rounds from its veterans as junior Vicky Meyer and senior Brooke Shelton both posted even par rounds of 72. Meyer after 36 holes is at one-over 145 (73-72) and in a tie for 11th place, while Shelton is at four-over 148 (76-72) in a group tied for 21st place after two days.
The individual leader is Alison Walshe of Tulane after two consecutive rounds of 70, standing at four-under 140.
LSU also counted a 75 from freshman Rebecca Kuhn and an 81 from Melissa Eaton for its 12-over score. Kuhn had her second consecutive 75.
“It was all about putting,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “We didn’t punt as well (Saturday) as we have in other rounds this year. It was just one of those days. It wasn’t a bad round. We just needed to get one more score in to help us.”
The final round of LSU’s second tournament of the fall season is set for Sunday.
