Soccer Heads to Mississippi Looking for First SEC Win

BATON ROUGE — The Tiger soccer team will be looking for their first SEC win as they take on Ole Miss Friday at 7 p.m. at the Ole Miss Soccer Complex.

The Tigers (5-5-0, 0-2 SEC) struggled against the Rebels (5-5-0, 1-1 SEC) last year. Ole Miss defeated LSU 3-0 in the last meeting between the two teams in Baton Rouge.

“Ole Miss is one of the best teams in the conference and their win over Georgia was huge,” said LSU co-head coach George Fotopoulos. “Oxford is a tough place to play and we know it will be a tough game and we are looking to go in there and get a win.”

Ole Miss comes into the game with a loss to Tennessee in a very close 2-1 loss. The Rebels defeated Georgia in their SEC opener.

Ole Miss is lead by sophomore Brittney Potts who leads the Rebels in goals with seven and points with 16. Potts and Kelly Renie make up the strong Ole Miss forward tandem that rivals the LSU forward line of sophomore Stacy Bishop and Baton Rouge native Artie Brown.

Brown with 33 career goals is only three goals away from tying the career record holder Jackie Cooper who had 36 goals from 1995-1996.

LSU will take on Mississippi State on Sunday, Oct. 3 to finish the weekend. The Tigers will spend the next weekend on the road, as the Tigers will travel to play Georgia on Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. and Tennessee on Oct. 10 at 1 p.m.
