BOULDER, Colo. — The LSU Soccer team ended its three game losing streak Sunday as they defeated Wyoming at the Colorado Classic at the Pleasant View Soccer Complex, 1-0. The Tigers (5-3-0) battled brisk winds and tough physical play from Wyoming (3-2-3) to get the win.
“It was a good win for the girls,” said LSU co-head coach Danielle Fotopoulos, “They played well and organized, and did what they had to do to win. It was good preparation for SEC play.”
The Tigers took the lead in the 32nd minute when sophomore Stacy Bishop headed the corner from Michelle De Cespedes into the back of the net past the outstretched Wyoming keeper.
Wyoming out shot the Tigers 18-9, and shots on goal were in favor of the Cowgirls 8-4 while most of the game was played on the Wyoming end of the field.
“I think the girls executed and played well today,” said Fotopoulos. “These games on the road are hard, but I think they mentally stuck with it and they showed good character.”
LSU will open conference play this Friday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. (CST) against Kentucky at the LSU Soccer Complex. They will finish their first SEC weekend against Vanderbilt on Sunday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m.
