DESENZANO DEL GARDA, Italy — Former Tiger and multi-event standout Claston Bernard took home gold for his native country of Jamaica over the weekend, winning the decathlon at the 17th Multistars, the first meet in a series of World Combined Event Challenges sponsored by the IAAF this summer.

Bernard led throughout the two-day competition, recording three top-three event finishes in the first day of action to tally 4,253 points. Bernard recorded the field’s top mark in the high jump, clearing 6-11 1/2, while posting the second best mark in the long jump (23-8).

With a 270-point lead heading into the second day of competition, Bernard used first-place finishes in both the 100-meter dash (10.99) and discus (154-10) to sustain his lead and finish with a meet-best 8,050 points.

Bernard, an NCAA champion and three-time All-American while at LSU, is currently tied for 14th in the decathlon world rankings.
