Tigers Go Through Final Practice, Spring Game Saturday

BATON ROUGE — LSU went through its final practice of the spring here on Thursday as the Tigers held a two-hour workout at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.

The Tigers wrap up spring drills on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the annual spring game in Tiger Stadium. Tickets for the spring game are currently on sale for $5. The contest will be broadcast live by Cox Sports Television as well as being aired on KLSU Radio 91.1 FM.

“(Thursday) was our last practice and I’ve been pretty pleased with the progress that we’ve made this spring,” LSU coach Nick Saban said. “I was really pleased with the way we competed and the intensity we scrimmaged with (last Saturday) and we finished it up this week with a pretty good week.

“I feel good about the player evaluations that we’ve been able to do. We’ve moved a lot of guys around to different places. I feel that by gaining that knowledge of seeing guys do different things that we had a good chance to put the pieces of the puzzle back together next year, especially when fall camp starts and we get to take a look at some of the freshmen and see if any of them can fit in and help us in some areas that we are a little bit thin.”

The Tigers had their annual spring game draft on Wednesday with the seniors, along with Saban, picking teams for the contest. Among those players highlighting the White squad are cornerback Corey Webster, quarterback Marcus Randall and offensive linemen Andrew Whitworth, Rudy Niswanger and Nate Livings.

The Purple team will be led by running back Justin Vincent, wide receiver Skyler Green and defensive end Marcus Spears.

“We had our draft (Wednesday) and I think the teams are pretty equally split up,” Saban said. “Hopefully, the players will go out and compete. We’ll keep it very, very simple. We just hope that everybody plays hard, gives a lot of effort, and can go out there and execute, play together as a group and support each other so that we have the best chance to be successful.”

Saban also announced on Thursday that four members of the media have been selected to serve as guest coaches for the spring game. Scooter Hobbs of the Lake Charles American Press and Glenn Guilbeau of the Gannett News Service will coach the Purple team, while David Meeks and Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune will head up the White squad.
