Track and Field in Good Position After Alumni Gold Day One

BATON ROUGE — The national champion LSU track and field was back in action Friday at the LSU Alumni Gold meet held at Bernie Moore Track Stadium.

Sophomore Megan Akre finished the day in second place in the women’s heptathlon, scoring 3,203 points. The Sugar Land, Texas, native is only 36 points behind leader Krystal Ward of Houston.

Fellow sophomore Dianne Harrison is 39 points behind Ward with 3,200 points after one day of competition.

“I think both the ladies are doing really well right now,” said LSU head coach Pat Henry. “They are all young and they are all looking good right now and that is the goal.”

For the Tigers, Kwami Roberts is in second place in the men’s decathlon with 3,978 points. He trials the leader Ryan Harlan of Rice by less than 300 points going into day two of the competition.

LSU returns to action tomorrow as the decathlon begins at noon (CDT) and the heptathlon starts at 5:30 p.m. The field events will kickoff the meet at 9:30 a.m., while the other running events will start at 3 p.m.
