OXFORD, Miss. — The 25th-ranked Lady Tigers (10-6, 2-5) picked up their first SEC road win of the season Friday with a 4-3 victory over Ole Miss.
“We played really well,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “I felt like we were in control of the match. We won the doubles point and won five of our first singles sets.”
The Lady Tigers won the match before the Lady Rebels (9-8, 1-6) even got on the board. They used wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to clinch that point.
LSU then picked up three more singles wins from Daysi Espinal, Lauren Seaman and Marina Chiarelli to finish off the match.
“The key for us was at five and six singles,” Minnis said. “Lauren and Daysi did an excellent job.”
LSU’s Amanda Mang returned to the singles lineup for the first time since Feb. 22 when she injured her wrist. Mang played at No. 4 singles, winning her first set and retiring after the second set when LSU had won the match. Mang’s return is just in time as teammate Camila Caliari is playing through her own injury.
“Having Amanda back gives us more depth now that Camila is hurt,” Minnis said.
Mang played No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Lady Tigers before she was sidelined.
LSU’s 62nd-ranked Jessica Ferguson was edged by 53rd-ranked Chloe Carlotti at No. 1 singles. Rocio Fantilli had the Lady Tigers’ only other loss at No. 2 singles.
The Lady Tigers finish their road trip Sunday when they take on Mississippi State.
