BATON ROUGE — LSU defeated Centenary for the second time this season 197.650-194.725 Friday night at the Gold Dome in Shreveport, La.
The Tigers’ score is their highest of the season as well as their sixth straight of 197.00 or better. LSU now has an overall record of 11-4 as the prepare for the SEC Championships. Centenary drops to 5-7 with the loss.
“We were really pleased to get a season-high at meet like this one,” said LSU head coach D-D Breaux. “It’s always more challenging when there’s no crowd and the girls are looking forward to the SEC Championships. But they stayed focused and knew that their performance tonight was all part of the preparation for next weekend’s Championships.”
Both April Burkholder and Terin Martinjak scored a perfect 10.000 on beam helping the Tigers clinch their fifth straight win.
The Tigers beat Centenary earlier this season 196.500-190.100 on January 30 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, La.
The Tigers return to action Saturday, March 20 in Duluth, Ga. for the 2004 SEC Championships. This will be the 24th season the SEC will crown a team champion. LSU won its first and only SEC title during the 1981 season.
