COLUMBIA, S. C. — The LSU women’s golf team posted a round of 311 which puts them in fourth place after the first 18 holes of the Lady Gamecock Classic Friday at the University of South Carolina University Club.
The Lady Tigers are 23 over par after the first round, with host South Carolina the leader at 10-over 298. North Carolina, winner of last week’s LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, is second at 15-over par with 303. Wake Forest is third at 21 over par 309.
Furman (312) and Texas (313) are right behind the Lady Tigers.
Ashley Prange, the individual winner of the Cleveland Classic from North Carolina, is the leader after one round at one-under 71. Brooke Shelton of LSU, who has had four straight top 10s for the Lady Tigers, is tied for fifth at 3-over 75.
The Tigers also counted a 78 from Vicky Meyer, and 79s from Melissa and Nicola Eaton.
“We are in a decent position after the first round but we need to worry about our own score and not worry about other scores,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “It was okay to start with, but we need to improve Saturday to get better in contention.”
The 54-hole tournament runs through Sunday.
