BATON ROUGE — The Lady Tigers kept their record spotless Sunday with a 4-3 win over Purdue. Camila Caliari clinched the match with a 6-2, 7-6 (5) thriller over Lara Burgarello.
LSU (5-0) won all three doubles matches to jump ahead early in what was their toughest test of the season thus far.
“Purdue is actually solid. They are a good team. They beat us last year,” Minnis said. “The doubles point was a very pivotal thing. We played great at (No. 6 singles) and pretty solid at (No.1 singles).”
Lauren Seaman picked up a quick win at No. 6 singles over Melissa Woods, 6-2, 6-2. Jessica Ferguson played two tough sets at No. 1 against Gretchen Haynor. She pulled out a 7-5, 7-5.
Amanda Mang lost a long match at No. 2 singles against Amy Walgenbach. The two traded leads in the tiebreaker before Walgenbach finally won, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8).
Marina Chiarelli and Rocio Fantilli lost their first matches of the dual season at No. 4 and No. 3 singles.
“I was pleased with how we competed,” Minnis said.
Mang and Fantilli quickly put away Haynor and Woods, 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. Chiarelli and Ferguson and Seaman and Caliari had harder matches but won, 8-6 and 8-5, respectively.
The Lady Tigers return to action next Sunday at noon when they host Rice.
