BATON ROUGE — The LSU softball team held a two-hour scrimmage after the annual “Select a Seat” promotion at Tiger Park on Saturday afternoon.
As part of the “Select a Seat” promotion, fans who purchased season tickets were allowed three chances to hit a home run for $100 for each seat they purchased. Luke Montz was the big winner on the afternoon. Hitting for the Delahoussaye family, he knocked three out of the park to win $300. Although two other fans hit the outfield wall, Montz was the only one to clear the fence in the contest.
While the scrimmage was highlighted by pitching and defense, shortstop Lauren Delahoussaye did record a double to left centerfield off of Emily Turner in the fifth inning. Leslie Klein, Kristen Hobbs and Lauren Castle also each recorded singles on the afternoon.
All-American Kristin Schmidt, Turner and Castle rotated in the circle and held the offense scoreless, with only three baserunners advancing past first base. Amber Brooks, pinch running for Delahoussaye after the double, was thrown out at home on the Castle single in the only scoring opportunity for the offense on the day.
LSU will begin the 2004 season with the Tiger Classic from Feb. 6-8 at Tiger Park. The Tigers will begin play against Centenary at 2 p.m. on Feb. 6. LSU will also take on No. 4 Oklahoma, Illinois, which is receiving votes in the Top 25 poll, and Southeastern Louisiana in the three-day tournament.
Season tickets can still be purchased for $75, which will provide admission to 15 Southeastern Conference games, three non-conference games and the Tiger Classic Tournament and the Purple and Gold Challenge Tournament. Single-game tickets are also available for $5 each for adults and $3 each for children. For more information, please contact the LSU Ticket Office at 578-2184 or 1-800-960-8587.
