ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada — Lady Tiger All-American Hazelann Regis and former Tiger great Alleyne Francique were named Grenada’s 2003 Men’s and Women’s Sports Personalities of the Year, it announced Saturday.

Both Regis and Francique were selected from a field of 15 nominees. It marks the third straight year Francique has taken home the award.

Regis, a senior on the LSU track and field team, was honored after turning in a sensational 2003 season. With the Lady Tigers, the quartermiler was a three-time All-America honoree who anchored the Lady Tigers to a school record in the 4×400-meter relay.

Following the collegiate season, Regis went on to win the Grenada national title and the Central American and Caribbean championship in the 400 meters. She followed that up with a second-place finish in the event at the Pan-American Games.

Francique, a two-time national champion and six-time All-American while competing for the Tigers, was equally impressive in 2003. The St. Andrew’s native won Grenada national titles in both the 200 and 400 meters, as well as the Central American and Caribbean championship in the 400.

Francique wrapped up the outdoor season with a third-place finish in the quartermile at the Pan-Am Games.
