Lady Tiger Tennis Scores First Win of Season, Resume Play Sunday

BATON ROUGE — The Lady Tigers were successful in their home opener Saturday, beating Centenary 6-1 before rain suspended their second match against UL-Lafayette.

The Lady Tigers had already swept the Lady Cajuns to win the doubles point and were leading in all four singles matches at the time of the delay.

LSU’s Rocio Fantilli and Daysi Espinal both shut out their first singles opponents. Centenary’s only point came from Anja Schmidt’s 6-4, 6-4 win over Jessica Ferguson. Ferguson had won three straight prior to the loss. Centenary had to forfeit one singles match.

Fantilli and Amanda Mang competed for the first time this season as a doubles team, beating Schmidt and Heather Kelley. Espinal and Lauren Seaman also beat Christine Majchrowic and Brandy Smith, 8-2.

The UL-Lafayette match will resume Sunday at 3 p.m.
