NEW ORLEANS — The LSU men’s basketball team faces a quick turn around to play its final non-conference game of the season Monday night at Lakefront Arena as the Tigers travel to face the University of New Orleans in a 7 p.m. game.
The Tigers enter the contest 11-1 on the season, 9-1 in non-conference games. The Tigers are 2-0 in SEC play after wins last week at Arkansas on Tuesday and a 70-66 win at the Assembly Center over Alabama on Saturday, a game in which LSU was down 12 entering the game’s final five minutes.
The game will be broadcast in Louisiana on the LSU Sports Network (Eagle 98.1 FM in Baton Rouge) and on the Internet at www.lsusports.net.
This is the fourth straight year the two teams have met and two years ago, the meeting between the Tigers and Privateers turned into a one-point win for the Privateers under then first-year coach Monte Towe. LSU has won three-of the four meetings in the John Brady era.
In LSU’s win over Alabama, five players scored in double figures, including three coming off the bench. Jaime Lloreda had his seventh double double of the year with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while freshman Brandon Bass also had 12 points. Off the bench, Darrel Mitchell led the Tigers with 19 points, while Antonio Hudson added 13 and Tack Minor had 12 as well. It was the second time this season that LSU had five players in double figures.
UNO is 7-6 and is coming off a Sun Belt Conference opening win over South Alabama at Mobile on Thursday, 64-58. In that game, UNO rallied from a 30-26 deficit at the intermission with Bo McCalebb off the bench the only player in double figures with 16 points.
Following Monday’s game, the Tigers will have 14 conference games remaining starting Saturday with a 2 p.m. game against nationally-ranked Mississippi State at the Maravich Center. Tickets are on sale at the LSU Athletics Ticket Office and on the Internet at www.LSUsports.net.
