NEW ORLEANS — LSU’s 17th-ranked Lady Tigers basketball team used a 16-0 run early in the first half to take the lead for good and pull away from Tulane in a 65-42 victory at New Orleans Arena on Tuesday night.

The run began after Tulane (5-6) open the game 7-2 over the first four minutes before LSU (11-2) then held the Green Wave scoreless over the next five minutes to take an 11 point lead. The Lady Tigers held on to a 33-25 lead at the break.

Seimone Augustus led the Lady Tigers with 18 points and six rebounds, while New Orleans native Temeka Johnson added 15 points, seven rebounds and five rebounds and fellow New Orleans native Doneeka Hodges hit for 16 points, dished out seven assists and had a team-high eight rebounds.

“This was a nice win for us tonight,” LSU head coach Sue Gunter said. “I was very impressed with Tulane and the way they fought hard the entire game. We did a good job of not letting them get second opportunities at shots and really were able to shut down a solid rebounding team.”

LSU shot 40.9 percent from the floor for the game and committed only seven turnovers, while holding Tulane to 32.7 percent shooting and forcing 15 turnovers. The Lady Tigers also out-rebounded the Green Wave 46-34.

Tymeka Moore led Tulane with 10 points and Lakethia Hampton had 12 rebounds.

The victory was the final non-conference road game of the season for LSU, who finished the month of December with a perfect 9-0 record, will return to Baton Rouge to face Arizona in the final non-SEC game of the season on Sunday at noon in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
