HOUSTON — For the first time this season, the LSU men’s basketball team will try its luck on someone else’s home court as the LSU Tigers meet the Houston Cougars here Tuesday night at Hofheinz Pavilion.
The Tigers are 8-0 on the season, coming off a 78-62 win over UAB Saturday night in the Nokia Sugar Bowl Basketball Classic at the New Orleans Arena. Jaime Lloreda, who was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, and Brandon Bass led LSU with 22 points apiece and both had double figure rebound totals.
Houston is on a roll itself winning back-to-back overtime games over Chicago State and Texas A&M to get its record to 5-3 entering the contest. Andre Owens led Houston in the win over A&M with 41 points.
This is the sixth time in the seven years of the John Brady era that the teams have met with LSU winning four of the first five meetings, including the last three. Houston leads the overall series, 6-5.
There is no television for the game but the game will be available on radio on the LSU Sports Network (Eagle 98.1 FM in Baton Rouge) and on the Internet at www.LSUsports.net.
The game could be a milestone for LSU Coach John Brady as he goes for his 200th career win as a Division I basketball coach at both Samford and LSU. Of his 199 wins, 110 have come at LSU.
Entering the week, LSU is one of 14 teams remaining undefeated in Division I out of 326 teams. LSU is ranked 24th in the Sagarin ratings and 12th in CBS Sportsline’s RPI.
After the Houston game, the Tigers will return to Baton Rouge for a few days practice before traveling to Shreveport-Bossier City to take on Centenary in a game in the Century Tel Center in Bossier City. LSU opens SEC play on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at Fayetteville versus Arkansas on ESPN.
