Lady Tigers Win 10th Straight, Rout Tulane 65-42

Lady Tigers’ Balanced Attack Cruises by Sam Houston State

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s 16th-ranked Lady Tigers basketball team had all 11 players score and played solid defense in a 74-38 victory over Sam Houston State on Monday night in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

For the second straight game Scholanda Hoston led the Lady Tigers (5-2) in scoring with 18 points off the bench, while Temeka Johnson hit for 16 points and had six rebounds and five assists.

LSU, which has not won four straight games and moved up two spots in the Associated Press poll, held Sam Houston State (0-7) to 28.0 percent shooting from the floor, including 16 percent in the first half. The Bearkats also committed 26 turnovers in the game, while the Lady Tigers had 14 steals.

The game was put away early by LSU after SHSU took an early 5-4 lead with 16:50 left to play in the first half, the Lady Tigers called a 30 second timeout and proceeded to go on a 28-2 run to take a 32-7 lead late in the half. LSU led 37-12 at the break and had as much as a 37-point lead in the second half.

“I like that we are 5-2 right now,” said LSU head coach Sue Gunter. “I think the fact that we are 5-2 is good, but we just have a lot of work to do and a long way to go. It is a matter of us being a work in progress.”

LSU hit 49.1 percent of its shots from the floor, including 50.0 percent in the second half. The Lady Tigers also grabbed 43 rebounds to Sam Houston’s 23.

Stacy Allen led the Bearkats with 10 points.

The Lady Tigers continue the home stand on Wednesday with the annual www.WOMENSCOLLEGEHOOPS.com Classic when they host Kent State in the second game at approximately 7 p.m., while Arkansas State will battle Richmond at 5 p.m. in the Maravich Center.
